Early this year when snow was still descending upon New York City, I went with Ming, Jen and Christina to The Meatball Shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I was glad Jen suggested the restaurant, because before she told me about it, I wasn’t aware of its existence. I’d only lived in New York for two weeks at that point. Yup, a New York newbie. Having some guidance from a Brooklynite on good eateries was a huge bonus.
The concept was cool. You sit down and the waitress passes you a laminated menu, and suddenly you feel like you’re back in high school again. There’s a marker for you to check the boxes that appeal to your tastebuds, and the grid on the left corner of the menu explains the different types of meat and sauces. Basically, you get to create your own meatball and pick a side.
